Backyard Transformation on Blue Lake, Oregon
Services on This Project: Retaining Walls | Artifcial Turf | Outdoor Lighting | Fencing
This project, located in Blue Lake just outside Portland, focused on a full hardscape transformation for a backyard that presented both challenges and opportunity. The property featured a steep slope descending all the way to the lake’s edge, with no existing structural landscaping in place.
The space initially contained deteriorating timber retaining walls, scattered rock, and overgrown trees and shrubs that required full removal before construction could begin. Starting in January, our crew faced difficult, muddy conditions that made the early phase especially demanding.
Our design introduced a large, engineered retaining wall system to stabilize the slope and create multiple functional outdoor living areas. These spaces were thoughtfully connected with a pathway that guides movement throughout the yard while enhancing accessibility.
To provide a clean, low-maintenance surface for year-round use, we installed synthetic turf—perfect for the family’s children to play on in any season. An open-style wire fence was added for safety without obstructing the beautiful lake views, maintaining a seamless connection to the surrounding environment.
We also designed and installed a custom lighting system, ensuring safe navigation along the pathway and down the stairs leading to the boat dock, while adding ambiance to the space after dark.
Despite the challenging conditions, the entire project was completed in just one month. The homeowners were thrilled with the transformation—so much so that they treated our crew to an incredible homemade brisket lunch to celebrate the finished space.
